UN Convoy in Ituri
A UN Convoy passes two CBM cars on a road in Ituri, Northern Congo. The MONUC force in Congo is the largest in the world numbering 20,000 men throughout the country, mostly stationed in the east of the country. MONUC was formed in 1999 after the Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement with an original non-combative mandate. In 2004, the mandate was extended to include discouragement of violence and protection of civilians and humanitarian workers under threat.
