Two elder men
Elders in Sahrawi society enjoy a respected and cherished status. Families consider it their duty and a matter of honour to care for them until they die. Picnic excursions are organized to enable old people to get together and reminisce. Those suffering from poor health are sent to a special centre where they are put on a traditional diet of camel meat and milk for 40 days. In the summers, the youth returning from their studies abroad are encouraged to spend time with the elders so they can pass on their knowledge and experiences to them.
