Milk for visitors
Offering camel milk is a traditional way of greeting visitors in Western Sahara. In exile, camel milk has become a rare luxury. Here Tekber is mixing water with sugar and powdered milk distributed by aid organizations to welcome their guests. Shortly after this picture was taken in 2003, the UNHCR reported that the acute malnutrition rate in the camps remained higher than 10 percent, while chronic malnutrition, typified by stunting, was more than 30 percent.
