Learning the Koran
Many Saharawi children go to koranic school in addition to doing their primary school classes in the refugee camps. This phenomenon has become widespread over the last years. Children go very early in the morning for an hour and then at the end of the school day for another session. Although the primary purpose is to gain a deeper knowledge of Islam, the parents claim that the kids who study the koran perform better in school and are more disciplined and well-behaved.
