Boys with baby goat

Animals such as goats, sheep and camels have always been an intimate part of Saharawi nomadic existence. Traditionally, special guests are honoured with the sacrifice of either a goat or sheep. A large number of refugee families still keep animals, according to means. The Polisario Front also has its own herds of the highly valued camel, which are tended by herders in the liberated zones of Western Sahara. This area lies to the east of the 2,400km long berm wall built by Morocco to defend its occupation.
