or returnees, face an uncertain future.

At the Syed Jammal Ud Din Afghan Training Centre for Disabled Refugees, trainees learn skills

004: Afghan refugees in Pakistan

Historical photo set-No.11: The exodus of more than 6 million Afghans started in 1979. The
assistance provided to the refugees during their long-term presence in Iran and Pakistan
represented one of the heaviest burdens ever shouldered by the international community. Shown

50% of UNHCR's budget for assisting Pakistan's 1.2 million Afghan refugees is spent on education and
health services. This is expected to have a long-term development impact and to facilitate
reintegration should they decide to repatriate.
