Asylum and Migration: Policy and Practice in the EU Accession Countries

This two-day conference examined the implications of the recent expansion of the EU upon asylum and migration in both the policies and practices of sending, receiving and transit states. The conference was jointly organised by the Czech Helsinki Committee, the Human Rights Education Centre, Charles University at Prague, and the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford in the framework of project Hybrid Information Delivery for Academics and Practitioners in the Field of Forced Migration in Central and Eastern Europe, funded by European Union.

Conference organisers

Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford
The RSC is part of the University of Oxford's International Development Centre at Queen Elizabeth House. Its objectives are to carry out multidisciplinary research and teaching on the causes and consequences of forced migration; to disseminate the results of that research to policy makers and practitioners, as well as within the academic community; and to understand the experience of forced migration from the point of view of the affected populations.

Czech Helsinki Committee, Prague
The Czech Helsinki Committee is a non-governmental non-profit organisation for human rights. It is a member of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF) based in Vienna, associating Helsinki Committees from 39 OSCE member countries.

Human Rights Education Centre, Charles University, Prague
The oldest university in central Europe, Charles University Charles University is composed of 17 relatively independent and self-governing faculties, which are located in Prague, Pilsen and Hradec Kralove.
