The May 2005 issue of Forced Migration Review focuses on asylum in Europe and is produced with the support of UNHCR's Europe Bureau.
The guest editor is Heaven Crawley (independent researcher/consultant, former director of the Migration and Equalities Programme of the Institute for Public Policy Research. Her introduction titled ‘Europe - fortress or refuge?’ sets the lead for the other feature articles which explore Europe’s slow progress towards a common asylum policy, emphasize the need for a focus on refugee protection, and challenge arguments put forward by the anti-asylum and immigration lobby.
